Why SBN Cloud makes monitoring your own affordable

In January 2015 UL awarded its first-ever Central Station Host Services certification to SBN Cloud. We believe it is now cost-effective to set up a UL certified central station with as little as 600 accounts and even fewer with an existing 24/7 operations center.

This white paper explores how this can be true and look at some of the implications that this may have on the monitoring industry as a whole.

Central Station Infrastructure when using SBN Cloud

SBN Cloud operates from two data centers located in the US, one in Dallas, and one in Virginia. UL requires an equivalently secure and redundant infrastructure be created within the central station housing operators.

This white paper describes the equivalent technology infrastructure at the Central Station to meet the UL 827 requirements.

Integrating technology with the traditional telephone service drives efficient central stations

Integrating technology with the traditional telephone service drives efficient central stations

The plain old telephone service is a central station’s lifeblood. Signals are received and alarms dispatched using the same technology Alexander Graham Bell invented almost 140 years ago. While this is changing with the move to signals received over cellular and IP devices, for the time being operators are likely to continue to interact with customers over the telephone when handling alarms, scheduling service calls, managing billing questions, and other customer queries.

This white paper explores how managing calls efficiently using IVR technology can be a key differentiator between cost effective and non-profit-making central stations.
